21st Century "Thinker"

What Rodin would think?

  1. Tee Hee. Thanks Katie.
You know that Rodin did not give the sculpture that title. It was originally called The Poet and was to be part of a large composition of figures called The Gates of Hell, but it is really about the human body and spirit. The Thinker was first applied to it by foundry workers who cast it, noting a similarity to a work by Michelangelo with a similar title.

  2. Hi Joe,
It is such an iconic figure, not surprised it has an interesting back story - thanks for sharing! Ruby, Paul and I went to the Rodin Museum a few years back and spent quite a bit of time contemplating what the thinker was thinking - now we know it was probably a poem - of one sort of another.
